In September 2002 a group of ladies started “Bears & Bags”. With donations of wool and fabric from members of the Centre we knitted bears and prepared cloth bags to enclose them. These bears were given to Children in Third World Countries.
In 2004 we found we could no longer find an outlet for the bears so changed our name to “Creative Crafts”. Under this name our achievements have been tremendous. Using the talents of the creative crafters group, we have knitted and crocheted, toques, sweaters, vests, afghans, and our famous “scrubbies”. We have sewn placemats, tea cozies, aprons, jewelry bags. The list goes on. We also complete “UFO”s, (unfinished objects”) under this category we have completed afghans, wall hangings, sweaters, quilts, etc. We do commission work, for example, we have completed 6 Baby Quilts that have gone to grandchildren in Belgium and quilted vests for Christmas Gifts, 40 ties were made for a men’s choir and we made quilts to raffle off at the Seniors Christmas Breakfast.
At the Open House and Christmas Breakfast, we have a table where our items are sold. We also donate knitted goods to various charities such as the Snowsuit Fund, missions, churches, etc. Small toques are made for the preemie babies at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and beautiful hand knitted items are donated to their Gift Shop for sale. One of our pet projects is the ‘tying of quilts” for Victoria Quilts.
There are approximately 15 ladies in this group. We meet every Thursday morning, 9:00 to 11:00 in Hall “F”. Everyone is welcome come out and join us for a cup of coffee. Donations of wool and cotton fabric are always welcome. Membership is required to join this group.
